The Battle of Britain was a decisive air campaign fought between July and October 1940. It marked the first major military conflict fought entirely in the air and prevented a German invasion of the United Kingdom. Of the nearly 3,000 names on the Battle of Britain Monument, 112 are Canadians. Among them were five airmen connected to the London, Ontario region, as well as many others who served as ground crew and medical personnel.
